28,201 words into the novella now. Word count has slowed down as I expected it would with the return to work.

This story began as a short that I intended to be under 6000 words! It has followed the path of many other stories I’ve written and just inflated before my very eyes. I now think it is likely to end up a short novel, probably 45-50,000 words. In fact, that is what I am aiming at now – a John Wyndham style short apocalyptic novel, with an H.G. Wells narrator (and music by Philip Glass).

Speaking of Mr Wyndham, I picked up a copy of  The Chrysalids recently, which I recall reading (along with The Midwich Cuckoos) when I was much younger. Time to rediscover.
